Respiratory disorders

Respiratory disorders, or lung diseases, disorders such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, lung cancer, mesothelioma, pulmonary hypertension and tuberculosis. Left untreated, lung disease can cause health problems, troublesome symptoms, and life-threatening conditions.
Before establishing a treatment or rehabilitation plan for lung conditions, a physician must first determine the cause and origin of a condition. After gathering and reviewing evaluation information, your doctor, often a pulmonologist, will determine the best treatment plan based on your condition and preferences. There are a variety of diagnostic and surgical tests and procedures to diagnose and treat pulmonary conditions.
At UT Southwestern, we help you understand your pulmonary diagnostic and surgical procedures, including an overview of the procedure, reasons for the procedure, risks of the procedure, what to do before the procedure, and what to expect during and after the procedure.
